How To Remove Concrete From Drain Pipes?

How To Remove Concrete From Drain Pipes?

The practice of flushing drain for concrete is not only popular but also surprisingly easy to do. Of course, it’s easier to regularly wash cement or other construction materials off equipment, clothing, and bodies into residential plumbing fittings. Nevertheless, you’ll be glad you washed outdoors while standing in a pool of dirty water because the concrete deposit in the shower drain has clogged the pipe.
We questioned several seasoned plumbers about how often they find concrete clogging drains and what solutions they’ve seen used to unclog them.

Why Does Concrete Get Stuck in Drain Pipes?

Concrete usually enters drain pipes when construction tools, mixers, or buckets are washed directly into the drainage system. While wet cement may initially flow with water, it gradually settles inside the pipe and hardens over time. This reduces the pipe’s diameter, restricts water flow, and can eventually cause complete blockages if left untreated.

Does Cement Obstruct Drainage?

If cement or concrete waste goes down the toilet, it could clog the pipes. As you add and let each layer of cement dry, your drains will get smaller. As the material builds up and settles in the bends and corners of the pipe, it is likely to affect both the water pressure and flow rate. Because of this obstruction, sewage and trash will begin to back up as the volume of waste increases. Unfortunately, there is no way around clearing the drain for concrete, so you may either do it yourself or hire a professional.

Methods To Remove Concrete from Drain Pipes

You shouldn’t worry if you find concrete in your shower drain or sewage line after it’s too late to remove it. Instead, consider the following removal procedures before shelling out thousands for brand new pipes if the blockage isn’t too severe.

Electrical And Mechanical Devices

Using mechanical instruments like augers (or plumbing snakes) is best left to professionals or people with expertise or training in drain cleaning. Like the jet blaster, there is typically no benefit to doing the task yourself due to the high hiring prices, lost time, and danger of damage to the rented equipment or your pipes.
The use of a drill makes it easy to flush away hardened concrete. In certain cases, a jet blaster may be required to eliminate bigger chunks of concrete. You’ll need an auger long enough to reach the obstruction, however.

Acid

Even though acid can break down concrete, it is dangerous to do this without the right training. This is because the acid eats away at the limestone in the cement, a key component of concrete, while also dissolving the gravel, sand, and water.

Although this is a reliable means of dissolving cement or concrete, we caution our clients to exercise extreme caution.

Snake Pipe

A plumbing snake is often called an auger. It is a long steel cable that removes obstructions. One may twist the cable’s end by pushing it as far down the drain as possible and turning the handle. Keep doing this until the drain is tidy or until you decide to try something else. Also, you can add concrete slab for drainage to keep your drain safe from concrete blockage.

Pipe Replacement

There may come a time when the cement build-up in your sewage system is too great for a simple cleaning to restore proper flow. In addition, the cement or concrete may have hardened to become unworkable.
